18 January 2010 Webinar
About the Webinar
The webinar—Some Perspectives on Virtual Collaboration: Directions, Opportunities and Challenges —took place on 18 January 2010. We used Citrix GoToWebinar as we have done for our previous webinars. The intent of this session was to address virtual-worlds technologies in a broader context of enterprise collaboration, to gain a better understanding of what role VWs can play.
Agenda:
| 11:00 a.m. | Future Possibilities for Enterprise Collaboration Technology Rob discussed some potential long term developments in collaboration technology, including augmented reality meetings, AI-based meeting administration and support, and the role for virtual worlds. Rob balanced this future vision with some common sense—discussing what is likely be effective in a real workplace. |
| 11:15 a.m. | A Near-term Perspective on Virtual Collaboration Issues and Trends Eilif stepped back from Rob's longer term future exploration and provided some perspectives on where we are today. He included comments on Cisco's new focus on collaboration, but looked beyond technology to address how to enable effective adoption and use of virtual collaboration. |
| 11:30 a.m. | Virtual Collaboration: Beyond Tools & Technologies Lucy shared some of the findings from some recent research she had done on virtual collaboration and also discussed some of the implications of her findings for organizations. |
| 11:45 a.m. | Question & Answer Session |
We are pleased to have follow-up discussions—through meetings, e-mail, or phone—to address issues we did not have time to cover in the Webinar. In our monthly Viewpoints and other VWW reports we expect to address in more depth many of the issues discussed in the Webinar.
