About the Meeting
- Silicon Valley is the home of a number of organizations and researchers who have done, and continue to work on, interesting museums projects that are either directly or indirectly related to virtual-world (VW) technologies.
- This session was the first of its kind in this area to bring people together from organizations like Stanford University, Tech Museum of Innovation, FXPAL, and BBI Engineering to explore issues around the general topic of "virtual museums."
- We wanted to hear about past projects using various emerging technologies and what lessons came out of these projects for future application of another set of emerging technologies of virtual worlds.
- We also wanted to hear about emerging use of virtual-worlds platforms and tools that may illustrate what opportunities lie ahead for the use of these technologies in museums around the world.
- Finally, we sought to create a dialogue among Silicon Valley experts in this area and connect them with others, like Marc Morgenstern of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum (Cleveland, Ohio), who attended the workshop.
